MCMXXXIX :: for & a ½ Brautigan
Draufschändlichgänger
broke into our house
to grind sausage.
That was in September 1939
and we lived in the slums
of Tawarszawacoma.
Uncle Jo stole up from Georgia to help
bein' helpful he'd steal officers
to put in the grinder.
Uncle Jo liked his sausage mild
and would turn the handle,
slowly, slowly adding all
and watching their faces,
and Draufschändlichgänger would pretend
that he was a monkey,
hopping one foot
and holding out
a tin arm.

Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galilee
Brautigan was driving a HMMWV
through the Galilee.
A hitch-hiker named Yeshua
hopped aboard trailing behind
him a flock of lambs
who'd been eating
pieces of him.
"What are you
heading?" asked
Brautigan, as Yeshua
head through the window
refenestrated the front
seat.
"Don't Panic",
soothed Yeshua,
"they've just lost their head.
Let's go anywhere,
anywhere in the galaxy."
"I'll follow you
but only to the
ends of the earth!"
shouted Brautigan.
Yeshua replied,
"I sing, 'Limitless undying Love'
and dance, across the stars,
but fleecing flock my path cross
& nothing's gonna change their world
should their cabalry catch me at Skully's Place
I'll be late."

Intoxicating Sober
Always be peaceful,
Totally there!
The Great I AM!
Too feel each
Tick in time
Lifting your head
To the Sky! before return to earth
Sober be and see the way.
How?
With poetry, virtue, life!
But get sober.
And if you fall
asleep on a golden porch
in the green grass
on whatever pallet
dull dun darkness developing,
ask a clock
ask a bird
ask a star
ask a wind
ask everything that flys
ask everything gamey
ask everywhere the Bon Ton Roule!
ask speech
ask song
ask dance
WHAT TIME‽
Answering
a clock
a bird
a star
4 winds
"You're just in time!"
Get sober!
Stay sober!
Poetry way, virtuous way, life's way, write a way!
Totally there!
The Great I AM!

Eddy Street - Part 2
Teresa said,
"There were drug dealers,
hookers and homeless people
outside the door to our room.
To top it off,
the room was filthy dirty
and there was some sort of smoke from drugs
that were being smoked by these people
in the air that [was] coming under the door into our room.
I have photos to document this."

Eddy Street - Part 1
Baudelaire was sitting
in a doorway with Brautigan
I saw them both right here
in San Francisco.
Brautigan was well versed
with his story, he could conjure
dinosaurs.
Baudelaire and Brautigan
were drinking sweet desert wine
"Il faut être toujours ivre"
said Baudelaire.
"My haunt's the Rode way Inn,"
said Brautigan. "And I can
remember when men walked
these streets."
"Entrez-vous sans cesse!"
said Baudelaire.

Pitt-Greene Connector
I stand in the middle of the crosswalk
In the middle of the lane
Square in front of you
In a bright blue Aerostich suit
Walking across the crosswalk
You really do look like you're going to stop
But you have a befuddled look on your face
As you're braking your Green Dodge Caravan
Perhaps unable to comprehend why there’s a bright blue person
Standing directly in front of you
In a crosswalk
With your neatly groomed coif and tasteful attire
You could be Michelle's sister
But I don't think she'd ever don
That look on your face
Nor choose crime like you
Who swerve close left around me
And roar off after your light
Your illegal maneuver complete
at least this time without making you explicitly
the cold blooded murderer at heart you are.

Scuppernong Song
Scuppernong
Round is the bottom, O the wine glass boyo
Lightshaft stand prominent in front o boyo
Glistening yellow-bronze skin berry boyo
Light seabird ready for the soarin' boyo
Burst berry flavor fills the mouth O boyo
Finish left the sweet and salty taste o boyo
Sweet white Duplin county mine is boyo
...

Sonnet 69
Close parts of thee waft close within my view
Bare oh thing where heart's thought the tongues would wend
All tongues, the voice of souls, give us to do
Utterly bare truth will seek each his end
Thy inward thrust with outward praise is grown
By the same tongue that give thee so thy moan
In other accents would this phrase be blown
Thy turn return me what thee I hath shown
I drink in beauty thine within my mind
As thee fullfill my measure with thy deeds
Thy tongue givest pleasures me, O most kind
To thy fair flower spray of salty seeds
Above and below where doth mirror show
They shrink away where did formerly grow
Bare oh thing where heart's thought the tongues would wend
All tongues, the voice of souls, give us to do
Utterly bare truth will seek each his end
Thy inward thrust with outward praise is grown
By the same tongue that give thee so thy moan
In other accents would this phrase be blown

Spring 98
To you I come, so merry in the spring
Wet green plaid April strips off winter trim
Spirited youth plants spring in everything
Past Saturnalia laughed and leapt on him
Yew, lays of boyds sung shouts to who men smell
Spring flowers bloom a queerly different hue
Make me and all the summer I'll re-tell
Proud lad Puck pluck his lap there where he grew
To then so wonder at the limpid white
And praise the deep vermilion when it rose
Sweet shaft of sun light dripping with delight
Drawn to you, springtime spraying all of those
Taste winter at the end of Willie's play
And dream time turns all bright memories gay
Wet green plaid April strips off winter trim
Spirited youth plants spring in everything
Past Saturnalia laughed and leapt on him
Yew, lays of boyds sung shouts to who men smell

After All Love
Jan us now facing both weighs time
Past magic miracle before
'tis meet the sparkle in the eye
I for you wore
I see you light Ζέφυρος smile
No splendor of Κροῖσος past us
I have grown happy in our home
By my Empress
Though World-Storm smash against our house
Dawn golden light will see it cease
Flooding sweetest love will come fill
our home in peace
Past magic miracle before

Over the planting sun
Over the planting sun
Hard golden clouds
Slide moist
Under the furrowed days.
Heat, the earth rocker
Comes shouting with you
Your beautiful love
I remember.
Over the snowy hills
When the grey dusk
Trails its last light
On the dying day
A thousand memories of you
Striding past
Pause and touch me
Telling me
Ineffable answers.

One Path
Two paths diverged by the forrest green
I would not travel up the two
But my companion's eye had seen
Down my path bent bushes lean
A dense wood with a darker hue
So down the dexter dale he strode
Where grassy goodness filled the air
Past bright meadows on his taken road
He wore a path to his final ode
A glade where all will fair
So up the sinister path I went
Sand, dust, mud, rock, cold, heat, mist, dark
Rose thorns tearing at the flesh God sent
Dead branches crosses inward, bent
The path many trode has left its mark
Mayhap we'll be telling, He and I
Some unknown country by and by
Though our pathways one time diverged
Returned to one path, one way urged
At the end, side by side, we lie
I would not travel up the two
But my companion's eye had seen
Down my path bent bushes lean
A dense wood with a darker hue
So down the dexter dale he strode
Where grassy goodness filled the air

Let Them Be Dreams
Hold not too tight to dreams
Let them go
Sparrows
Let them fly
Let them soar
True dreams
return to you
transformed
Sparkling millions
light passing through hardest diamond
transformed
wondering new possibilities
Let them go
Sparrows
Let them fly
Let them soar
True dreams
return to you
transformed
Sparkling millions
light passing through hardest diamond
transformed
wondering new possibilities

Could be a good Friday
Jesus won't you just pass over me
I've long forgiven you for what you didn't create
I don't want your blood streaming down my throat
I don't want to cannibalize the broken bloody carnivorous feast
I've no need to be forgiven for what you didn't create
Jesus can't you just get over it already
I've long forgiven you for what you didn't create
I don't want your blood streaming down my throat
I don't want to cannibalize the broken bloody carnivorous feast
I've no need to be forgiven for what you didn't create
Jesus can't you just get over it already

Regular Man
Pretty men wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a Man
Regularly.
Regular Man,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a Man
Regularly.
Regular Man,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The rise of my chest,
The grace of my style.
I'm a Man
Regularly.
Regular Man,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to jackal and hide.
When you see me passing
It ought to make Gay Pride.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a Man
Regularly.

How shall I speak to you?
I think I would like to speak to you with a Remington 12 gauge shotgun stuck in your mouth
I would like to pull the trigger and watch your eyes as the back of your skull vaporizes and little bits of blood, brains, and bone spatter the wall behind you
I think I would like to speak to you with a yanagi ba slicing through your genitals
I would like to watch your eyes as I slice each of your testicles to small slivers and slice into a thousand pieces your penis
I think I would like to speak to you with a fountain pen stuck in your eye, first the one, then the other
I would like to watch the black ink flowing out and filling your eyes with the endless darkness you face for all eternity.
I think I will speak to you with my pen.

Protocol Survey :: Michelle Hugs a Queen
In a random survey of contemporary queens, it was found the old protocol of not touching a queen to be completely obsolete and a vast majority of all queens surveyed went on to state that they would just love a hug from First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Queen Elizabeth went on to demonstrate this by hugging First Lady Michelle back, even though the queen's wrist was a little limp.

To Late Ah Din
Clanging for told his time one day
One event no delay
The rest of time he has, the rest
He knows the place he'll fill
Lain flat beneath the till,
Where time withers where time once was.
Now our answer must satisfy
The question in the stony eye:
We are the living telling now
Place roaming laurel on his brow
Knows question's answer now.
What happens to life when time is to die?
He understands Death; soon You, soon I.

Putting in the Seed
Come & fetch me to my work to-night
On the supper table lay
Burying the white
smooth bean & wrinkled peas
Soft as petals from the apple tree
Smooth & white & bare in sight
& so long for you
slowly in fading light
Servant to springtime passions as the earth
How Love burns through the Putting in the Seed
On through the watching for the little death
When, just as the furrow swallows the seed
The sturdy arched body comes
Shaking its way & shedding the earth.
