People ridicule others for different reasons:
For instance:
The Americans resent the French because they ridicule America's President and his foreign policy decisions.
The French ridicule his decisions because they're stupid, and the American President because he's an ass.
The English ridicule the French because the French are overly proud of their culture and cuisine.
The French ridicule English culture and cuisine because they have none.
The English ridicule the French as unmanly because they can't get out from under their women's skirts.
The French ridicule the English as unmanly because they can't get out from under their boy's skirts.
